Playing It Up...
We have recently launched a new project called Playing It Up. These are short courses and intensive one-day workshops aimed at performers who are already working in stand-up comedy but who do not have formal performer training.
The Playing It Up courses aim to improve physicality and expression to help round-out and emphasise your on-stage persona through collaborative game play in pairs and small groups. Using voice, body, persona, status and improvisation exercises and games this will be a low-pressure, fun way to improve your skills and get the most out of yourself on stage. We work on the fundamentals of stage-presence, how to command attention, fill your space and maximise your performance as well as honing in on exactly what it is you want to be conveying to your crowd, who you want to be behind the mic.
If you are interested in taking part please register your interest here.
We aim to be as inclusive and accessible as possible. If you have any additional needs or concerns please don't hesitate to let us know. Any issues will be held in complete confidence and we'll assist in any way possible. Costs will vary depending on location rental costs & travel. However we do not want cost to be a prohibitive factor so aim to include at least one subsidised low-cost/no-cost place on each course. These are awarded confidentially and according to need and availability. Applications for these spots are created for each individual course so to apply you just need to register your interest above and when a suitable course becomes available for your location and preferences you will be invited to apply for your place.
We are working on releasing dates for our next short course as well as some one-off intensive workshops. Once we have these dates and locations we will get in touch with everyone who has registered their interest above so if you want to be kept informed, make sure to leave your details.
Testimonials
As these courses are still in their infancy, we haven't had many folk through the doors quite yet, but here's some words from participants who completed the 2024 'Taster Course':
“As well as the invaluable factors of having fun and goofing around with other comics (and I'm a firm believer in the value of both those things in their own right), I feel like I learned a lot about body, voice and physical presence. It not only helped me to enjoy and understand my own comedy persona better, it's actually been weirdly immense for inhabiting my own body in day-to-day life”

“I found the course really great for building my confidence as a physical performer and it was also so much fun!”
